OKLAHOMA CITY (Dec. 3, 2018) – The TSET Board of Directors on Monday announced the appointment of Julie Bisbee as interim executive director. Bisbee is currently the director of public information and outreach at TSET.
In a special board meeting, the TSET Board of Directors voted to appoint Bisbee after Executive Director John Woods announced his resignation effective Dec. 5.
“TSET has benefitted from Julie’s knowledge of TSET’s strategic approach to improving health, as well as her knowledge of state government and the Legislature,” said Don Millican, chairman of the TSET Board of Directors. “The TSET staff is professional and prepared to continue the important and necessary work to reduce preventable death in Oklahoma during this transition.”
For more than six years, Bisbee has overseen efforts to communicate with grantees and the public about TSET’s impact on the health of Oklahoma. Bisbee has also represented the agency at the Legislature and led statewide efforts to inform the public about work funded by TSET to reduce the leading causes of death in Oklahoma – cancer and cardiovascular disease – by preventing and reducing tobacco use and obesity.
As a member of TSET’s leadership team, Bisbee has also assisted with agency-wide projects and improvements. She will report directly to the TSET Board of Directors.
“It’s an honor to serve in this role,” Bisbee said. “Our work at every level is making a difference in the lives of Oklahomans. From cutting-edge cancer research and treatment, community-based grants and incentives that create healthy environments for Oklahoma kids, and programs that help place doctors in rural areas, TSET is creating a healthier future for Oklahoma.”
The TSET Board of Directors is expected to address a timeline and hiring process for a full-time executive director at its regularly scheduled board meeting in January.
The Oklahoma Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET) serves as a partner and bridge builder for organizations working towards shaping a healthier future for all Oklahomans.
