Oklahoma City, OK (Jan. 22, 2018) – More Oklahomans are reaching out to the Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline for help quitting tobacco use, making the helpline one of the top-ranked programs in the nation.

The Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline, a free service available 24/7 to Oklahomans who want help quitting tobacco, saw a 38 percent increase in the number of Oklahomans enrolling in services in 2017.

Free Services Available Statewide for Oklahomans Quitting Tobacco

OKLAHOMA CITY – (Dec. 28, 2017) – Thinking about quitting tobacco in the new year? The Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline, a program of the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET), provides FREE resources to Oklahomans who are thinking about quitting tobacco, currently quitting tobacco, former tobacco users wanting to stay tobacco-free and those who want to support loved ones or patients.

Earlier this month, the TSET Board of Directors voted to provide funds for senior nutrition services at the Department of Human Services (DHS) and mobile mental health crisis teams for children through the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (ODMHSAS).

The Board of Directors approved a total of $3.08 million in one-time funds to maintain programs for the current fiscal year that impact senior citizens and children in need of mental health services.

In 2006, tobacco companies were found guilty of breaking civil racketeering laws, lying to the public about the dangers of smoking and marketing to children. After 11 years of litigation, the companies are now forced to take action and admit their guilt in national media and on cigarette packaging.
